Delphi for PHP was released more than two years ago (Mar 2007). One major update in late 2008 which is badly in need of repair bug fixing. This is now the start of th third year of maintenance contracts for D4PHP.
What are Embarcadero's intentions for Delphi for PHP?. Who is now the product manager given recent restructuring? What are the plans for VCL for Delphi PHP?. There has been no development evolution for a number of months. Very few write transactions into SVN repository in the past year and nothing in the last four months [http://sourceforge.net/project/stats...mode=12months] At one point there were full time committers working on this VCL but they are long gone The developer lists are very quiet or nonexistent. The IDE roadmap was posted a year ago [http://edn.embarcadero.com/article/37662 |http://edn.embarcadero.com/article/37662 ] and the VCL roadmap is almost a year old as well: [http://www.qadram.com/vcl4php/blog/?...hp/blog/?p=57] There is now a branch project called "VCL for PHP Open Components". What does that mean for the base VCL? There is virtually no blogging activity or internet activity about Delphi for PHP or the VCL for PHP which indicates a fairly small community of users. So far the number of third party component vendors is quite modest and they have moved to make their products work in any IDE. There are more and more competing IDEs that can be used to edit debug and compile PHP code and more to come including Visual Studio 2010. Its time then to restate the plans for Delphi for PHP and give current and prospective end users and component developers some sense of where the product might be headed. The question arises just where does PHP for Delphi sit and just what is its future. Right now it looks pretty bleak. Time for some cooing noises and reassurance from Codegear/Embarcadero/Qadram This will be crossposted to the VCL for PHP forums as well. |

All we can comment on about the future of the product is the Road Map.
If you think the product is very buggy, be sure to post the bugs to Quality Central. Generally, I have seen very few bugs reported myself. The one area I've seen numerous reports on is the debugger. We are using a third party product, so are hands are pretty tried with it. The general consensus is we'll switch debuggers with the next release. The product manager is Nick Hodges. He has been the product manager for quite a while. Steve Cooney wrote: > Delphi for PHP was released more than two years ago (Mar 2007). All,
I'm currently working on the on going roadmap and I'm excited to see what is possible. We are currently going through the 2nd revision of the roadmap, there are things that we want to do ASAP and things we have to do ASAP. The bottom line is that we want the most stable PHP development environment on the planet that will allow all the developers who use it to be successful.. We really want to enable new functionality for PHP developers to allow them to build cutting edge solutions in the shortest time possible. So to answer the question, I'm the new Product Manager for Delphi for PHP. My email contact is michael.rozlog@embarcadero.com and I have an open line. If you have a concern, email me, if you want a feature, email me, if you want to rant that the product is not doing what you want, email me. Or, if you want to say it's a great product, email me those too, but I'm more interested in the important issues to you than the slap on the back. Again, I'm working on the roadmap as I write this... I'm excited by what the product can do and how we can do it better in the future. Please, I will second Quinn's post; please if you find a bug, please post it, if you have a test case, please post it, if you have a step-by-step to error script, please post it. Also, it is time now to hit me with any and all requests for enhancement, features, additional functionality. Talk to you soon, Mike <Steve Cooney> wrote in message news:108012@forums.codegear.com... > Delphi for PHP was released more than two years ago (Mar 2007). In answer to your question it seems version is dead in the water, So the best possible answer here would be to open source it.
I have version 1 and 2 with maintainance support will i be getting version 3 for free........ I have yet to develop anything in D4PHP which has been any good. For developing now I use Codecharge Studio,Netbeans. So unless D4PHP can compete with these products dont even try.Remebering Netbeans is free. Dean |

According to the Road Map we have to wait up to "Early 2009".
Could you please comment the status of the product? We are -anxiously- waiting for encouraging news. When we have something new to say a new road map will be posted. Wish I
could say more, but it isn't worth loosing my job over. Until a new road map is available, the only comment I can make is it is no longer Early 2009. :-) Costas Papageorgiou wrote: > According to the Road Map we have to wait up to "Early 2009". > Could you please comment the status of the product? > We are -anxiously- waiting for encouraging news. > CostasP > |

A new road map should answer your question of the status of the product.
